Film Noir: THE CHASE follows the unfortunate Chuck Scott (Robert Cummings), a World War II veteran who now finds himself a penniless drifter with empty pockets and en even emptier belly. His luck changes when he finds a wallet full of folding money on the ground and he can finally afford to buy himself a meal. But this is a noir tale so his luck changes alright, it changes for the worse.
This story proves the cynical adage that no good deed goes unpunished.

Misfortune followed by a string of bad decisions hounds the poor fellow right from the moment his car passenger dies. Al was just hitchhiking his way to his girlfriend and suddenly he was embroiled in a mess of what he was sure looked like murder. Just when he thought it couldn't possibly get any worse, he picked up Vera. And then things get really terrible when this femme fatale turns to blackmail.
